Weddings at All Saints’

Weddings at All Saints are joyful occasions where we celebrate a good gift of God in the marriage relationship.

The Marriage Service of the Anglican Church is a service that has God’s intent and plan for marriage at its centre. The bride and groom make solemn vows reflecting the Bible’s understanding of marriage before God. The Bible is read and a sermon is given that speaks of why Jesus is good news for the married couple as well as for the world. Prayers are offered asking for God’s help and blessing as the married couple embark on a new life together.

As marriage is a gift of God, we seek to encourage every couple to take God seriously. In addition, we are committed to helping you prepare well for your marriage so that it might be shaped by God’s wisdom in a way that will be lasting.

The All Saints wedding ministers are Rev. Owen Goddard and Rev. Canon Colin Aiken. We also allow other Christian ministers to take services in the church, if you would like to have a particular minister, who is a registered marriage celebrant.

If you would like to explore holding your wedding at All Saints, please contact our office on weekdays Monday, Wednesday-Friday 9:30am-4pm (office is closed on Tuesday). Our office can also forward you a copy of our wedding policy to help you decide whether All Saints is the right choice for you. We would love to help make your marriage service meaningful, enjoyable and memorable.

The Booking.

Weddings are usually held on a Saturday at 10:30am, 1:00pm or 3:30pm. In certain cases, we can arrange to hold a wedding on a Friday afternoon. We do not hold weddings on a Sunday.

The Pipe Organ.

The pipe organ is located in the western gallery of the church building. Built by the English firm of Hill Norman and Beard in 1966, there are 1,655 pipes, runs on 415 volts and draws up to 60 amps. The organ is used to lead a congregation in hymns and songs, and also to support a band - so becoming a "band instrument". It is capable of playing contemporary and traditional music beautifully. Organs have led Christian songs in churches for more than 1,000 years.

The Pew Bows.

Pew bows may be placed on the ends of the pews. We have a number of types, including; Short white organza, Long white organza, Long ivory crystal organza and Long white satin organza. Contact the office if you want to choose which bow is placed in the aisle for you OR if you want to supply your own pew bows. (There are 42 pew ends down the aisle)

The Service Sheets.

We do not provide service sheets but can email soft copies of the complete service and outlines so that you can construct your own service sheets. Some couples print most of the services, while others only give an outline of the services. Songs or hymns and Bible readings can also be printed on the service sheets. Please email a copy of your service booklet to the minister taking your wedding, for them to check, before you print them off.

The Rehearsal.

The rehearsal gives an opportunity to briefly run through the wedding service, and should only last for about 20 minutes.

Wedding rehearsals are usually held on the Thursday night before the wedding. Please ring the office to arrange the rehearsal. At your rehearsal, bring the bridal party and whoever is giving the bride away - so you all know what to do on the day. Please bring a copy of your service sheet to the rehearsal, if you are having one.

For weddings conducted by non-All Saints’ ministers rehearsals are organised by ringing the office. We suggest a weeknight at 7.15 pm or any mutually suitable time.

We ask that your minister meet with the representative from All Saints’ who opens the church. The minister will be asked to lock the church and turn off the lights at the end of your rehearsal.

We encourage marriage groups to limit their rehearsal time to 30 minutes. If more time is required please inform the office.

The All Saints’ Services.

We encourage couples to attend either of our Sunday services, at 8am (traditional) or 10am (family). This enables you to get to know the All Saints’ minister who will be marrying you and helps create a stronger bond with the church you will be married in. (Please ring the office to check which Sunday service the minister marrying you will be attending.)
